Dingac Postup 750ml
Dingač Postup is a powerful Croatian red wine made from Plavac Mali, grown on the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the protected Dingač and Postup sites along the Pelješac Peninsula. These vineyards sit just above the Adriatic Sea, where constant sunlight, rocky terrain and salty sea air shape a wine unlike anything else in Europe — a character locals call “freškina”, or sea freshness.
If you enjoy Barossa Valley Shiraz or McLaren Vale reds, Postup will feel familiar in weight and intensity — but with a distinctly coastal edge. Where Australian Shiraz leans toward dark fruit and spice, Postup adds briny salinity, dried Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme), scorched stone and sea spray to its profile.
Postup is typically harvested later than Dingač, resulting in a more exotic and concentrated expression. Expect aromas of dried fig, plum, tobacco and sun-baked rock, contrasted by savoury, salty notes carried in from the sea. The palate is bold, structured and surprisingly saline, with power that builds rather than overwhelms.
In Croatia, this wine is traditionally paired with home-cured anchovies, pickled onions, olives, prosciutto and dense, meaty stews. Its natural salinity also opens the door to unexpected pairings — even raw oysters — much like how bold Australian coastal wines can work brilliantly with seafood.
For Australian drinkers, Dingač Postup sits somewhere between a full-bodied Barossa Shiraz and a Mediterranean Rhône-style red, but with a unique Adriatic identity that makes it unmistakably Croatian.
